Mission Tejas
State Park
GRAPELAND, TX
Mission Tejas State Park was established in 1934 and is home to a commemorative representation of Mission San Francisco de los Tejas. Also in the park is the log home of the Rice Family built in 1828 and restored in 1974. The home served as a stopover for people traveling through the area. In 2017, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department constructed a new visitor center at this popular park. We designed multiple interactive elements, including a donkey who brays when overloaded with supplies, a touch screen map to see photo location highlights along El Camino, and a pinball machine that helps to reinforce the tribulations of early travel, and a photo book lauding the natural wonders of East Texas..
